How to Get to Cortes Island Take the Ferry from the Mainland to Nanaimo - BC Ferry - Mainland to Vancouver Island
- Tsawwassen to Duke Point (25km south of Nanaimo) - 2 hours. - Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) to Nanaimo - 1.5 hours Drive to Campbell River 100 miles north of Nanaimo - the drive takes 2 to 2.5 hours in the summer. |

Take the Campbell River-to-Quadra Island Ferry - BC Ferry - Northern Gulf Islands Routes A 15 minute trip. The ferry leaves Campbell river every hour on the half-hour. The last connecting ferry at 6:15 pm is the only exception. If you miss it, you should stay in Campbell River for the night and come over next day. Drive across Quadra Island and take the Quadra Island-to-Cortes Island Ferry A 15 minute drive to Heriot Bay (just follow the signs) where you catch the ferry to Cortes Island. The ferry crossing takes 45 minutes. Enjoy it - the scenery is fabulous. When you get to Cortes Island Continue along the road to a stop sign, then turn right onto Carrington Bay Road. At the next stop sign, turn left onto Whaletown Road. After you go over two small bridges, there is a fork in the road near the top of the hill. Bear right. Continue along to a stop sign. Turn left onto Seaford Road. Continue along to a fork in the road. Turn right onto Cortes Bay Road. If you are bringing a Trailered Boat - please DO NOT drive it to the cottage. It will be very difficult to turn around. See instructions after Directions to the cabin.
How to Get to Red Granite Getaway Continue along (the road is very narrow and windy) until you come to Red Granite Road. Turn left. Drive down Red Granite Road until you almost get to the water on your right. You will pass two large stone posts on your left. Drive in through the second set of stone posts. Your parking spot is immediately to your left at the big cedar-sided house. The cabin will be open and the key will be on the kitchen counter. If you are bringing a Trailered Boat - DO NOT drive it to the cottage. It will be very difficult to turn around. Your boat can be launched at the public boat launch ramp on Cortes Bay Road (just after the turnoff to Manzanita Drive). You can park the trailer back at the cottage.
